Integrative Complementary Natural Medicine: Osteopath in Sandton

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on approach to healthcare that focuses on the musculoskeletal system—the bones, muscles, joints, and connective tissues—to support the body’s overall function and well-being. It is based on the principle that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, and that structure and function are closely connected. Osteopathy is often used to treat issues like back pain, joint pain, headaches, and postural imbalances, and can be an effective part of an integrated health plan.

As an osteopath, I use gentle manual techniques, such as stretching, joint mobilisation, and soft tissue manipulation, to improve mobility, relieve pain, enhance circulation, and restore balance. Using gentle manipulation minimises the risk of strain or irritation, especially for sensitive or vulnerable people. It helps to release tension and restrictions without causing additional inflammation or trauma, and creates a state of neuromuscular relaxation, which calms the nervous system and reduces pain responses. It is a respectful treatment approach that acknowledges each patient’s body, age, and health status and it can improve function throughout the body, not just the area being treated.

Integrative Complementary Natural Medicine: Osteopathy for Geriatric Patients

As our bodies age, we become more vulnerable to stress, injury, and chronic conditions. I treat many geriatric patients, and osteopathy’s gentle approach using low-force, soft tissue techniques, joint mobilisation and subtle manipulations, makes them more comfortable and open to treatment. This is because the treatment respects the fragility of ageing joints, bones and connective tissue. Sudden, high-velocity manipulations that are used in some chiropractic approaches could cause injury and discomfort, particularly in patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia, arthritis, joint replacements, and reduced flexibility or muscle tone.
