The first visit is a consultation including treatment, which includes questions about your past health, and history, specifically relating to what it is you are wanting to address by being here. Generally speaking, things such as medication you may be on or have taken, accidents you have had or been in. Standard tests are done; vital signs, breathing, circulation, heart (pulse), tongue. The session can last anything from 20 – 60 minutes which includes your treatment.
Should you not be 'corrected' on the first visit it can take up to four visits to be fully addressed. Each visit is assessed for progression and improvement. Should it be seen and noted that healing is not moving as anticipated, then an alternative procedure is applied or an referring specialized consulted.
Yes, absolutely. Especially when it comes to my ‘elderly’ patients (and of course this applies to younger patients too) where they have experienced more ‘impact’ in their lives, such as through sports injuries. Rheumatology – joints as these need consistent attention.
Absolutely. Each session uses new needles, which are acquired in packaging that is opened in front of the patient so that they are assured that the needle is brand new. Used needles are discarded after each session as a matter of policy.
No. Knowledge of the ‘points of acupuncture’ is essential basic practice and only points along meridians (the network) are addressed, with specific purpose too. This means the nerves are not the 'target'.
This is a matter of individuality, really. Pain is relative. However, having said that, the needles used are extremely fine and in themselves create very little entry punctures and therefore "pain" is absolutely minimal. Also, being inserted into the correct points alleviates this too.
The insertion of the needles releases endorphins (any of a group of hormones secreted within the brain and nervous system and having a number of physiological functions. They are peptides which activate the body's opiate receptors (Small peptide neurotransmitters, called enkephalins and endorphins, are the natural inhibitors of pain signals. They bind to opioid receptors in pain-signalling cells of the nervous system. Opioids mimic this action, also causing opioid receptors to slow down the pain response), causing an analgesic effect) and enkephalins (Enkephalins are found in high concentration in the brain as well as in the cells of adrenal medulla. In response to pain, norepinephrine, a hormone that is activated in fight-or-flight response is released along with endorphins)
All the time. Except for children or anyone with a fear of needles. It forms part of the total treatment in conjunction with osteopathy. Energetically = acupuncture (mind) Osteopathy = movement (body), Ayurveda medicine = herbal (body and mind), and coaching = mind. Coaching is done throughput the treatment, which supports what is happening and educates the patient during procedures as to what and why.
I do not apply dry needling, at all. Dry needling is finding a point which indicates pain by pressure, then inserting a needle there. Finding a trigger point. Acupuncture uses known point of the meridian (Simply put, a meridian is an 'energy highway' in the human body. ... Meridians can be mapped throughout the body; they flow within the body and not on the surface, meridians exist in corresponding pairs and each meridian has many acupuncture points along its path. The 12 meridians are: The Yin meridians of the arm are Lung, Heart, and Pericardium (the membrane enclosing the heart, consisting of an outer fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane). The Yang meridians of the arm are Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Triple Burner. The Yin Meridians of the leg are Spleen, Kidney, and Liver. The Yang meridians of the leg are Stomach, Bladder, and Gall Bladder.) I address the cause not the symptoms.
The essential difference is that chiropractic treatment uses a high velocity or a faster movement in treating versus osteopathy uses ‘feeling the movement and changes’ and addressing the joints, bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles – the cushions.
A tendon is a fibrous connective tissue which attaches muscle to bone. Tendons may also attach muscles to structures such as the eyeball. ... A ligament is a fibrous connective tissue which attaches bone to bone, and usually serves to hold structures together and keep them stable.
Homeopathy has the ability to restore ‘vital force’. We are energy. It has no side effects. It is gentle, a medicine of the senses – making sense that is. It does not mask, it treats. It is part of my holistic approach to healing, repairing or addressing an issue – seeking resources, considering all aspects and transgenerational coding. Sense and soul.
Everybody has the possibility of becoming inflamed: Physical, Digestive. Foods promote inflammation due to the ingredients; Chemicals, Pesticides, Herbicides, Hormone disrupters and the soil; chemicals or lack of minerals. The Ayurveda approach is one that "Organic food is a must" - balances this out.
A word on Genetically Modify Organism, GMO It is aberration in terms of Time, space in nature, natural evolution. Producing seeds that are infertile that you can not reproduce and replant.
